The life of a saint is not simply a personal perfecting, it is also a factor in the entire scheme of earth’s redemption. No one can be saved alone, by himself or herself, unassisted by or unassisting others.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this little blog that I have going here. I thought it was quite the achievement when I went for a few months not missing a single day of posting an entry. Then I had the unfortunate displeasure of realizing that I didn’t have the time to write a good thought for every day. Sure I was putting a lot of thoughts out there, but it wasn’t good stuff. Instead of handing out real good apple pies occasionally, I resorted to flinging mud pies in all directions in order to keep up with the schedule I had set myself. So, I tried dwindling down my thoughts to three a week. While in school this still seems a little much. I’ve decided to simply write a thought whenever a though comes to me, rather than trying to force inspiration to hit on a scheduled basis. Hopefully I am saying goodbye to the mud pies and delivering more scrumptious apple pies than ever before.
So, with that in mind, here is a thought for y’all. Continue reading
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
This scripture is amazing. Many people focus on the fact that Christ is saying that He will help us overcome our weaknesses. However, there is another point that I love from this scripture. Let me illustrate it with a story. Continue reading
Greatness is not found in possessions, power, position, or prestige. It is discovered in goodness, humility, service, and character.
Unknown (by me anyway)
So, I saw this quote on a picture on Facebook today, and it gave me an idea for my thought. True greatness is found through following the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, most of the world does not recognize this type of greatness. The world sees greatness as a measure of what you’ve done that can be seen; what you’ve done in public that affected a large number of people. In the world’s view, only famous people can be truly great. Continue reading
“If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.” – Sebastien-Roch Nicolas
Sometimes it is easier to love your neighbor than it is to love yourself. I think this may be because we know a lot of our own faults that others don’t know about. Continue reading
“Mishaps are like knives that either serve us or cut us as we grasp them by the blade or the handle.” – James Russell Lowell
We all make mistakes, whether great or small. Some people let these mistakes drag them down, while others don’t. Continue reading
The willingness to forgive is a sign of spiritual and emotional maturity. It is one of the great virtues to which we all should aspire. Imagine a world filled with individuals willing both to apologize and to accept an apology. Is there any problem that could not be solved among people who possessed the humility and largeness of spirit and soul to do either — or both — when needed?

Now, the problem with trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed. – C.S. Lewis (The Magician’s Nephew)
I honestly think that many times people blind themselves to the truth, even it is staring them right in the face. This may be because whatever they’re facing doesn’t fit into their perceptions of how things should be. Or perhaps they recognize the truth of it, but don’t want to accept it because it would mean that they either have to change how they’re living or because it means that they’d have to admit that they were wrong in a decision that they made in the past. The problem comes when they refuse to accept the truth because of these reasons. Rather than admit they were wrong, they stubbornly refuse to let go of their mistakes, and end up messing up even further. Continue reading
